Huddle Against Hunger

Your Support Transformed Lives. Here's How.

Last September, Texas State University and UTSA held a friendly competition to help end food insecurity on both campuses. During the Huddle Against Hunger campaign, each school raised funds for their food pantries. Bobcat Bounty is TXST's on-campus, student-led food pantry that works to feed students. Bobcats accepted the challenge against UTSA and gained the most donors and dollars!

Immediate Impact

Thanks to your generosity, we raised $51,467 and welcomed 1,115 donors to the challenge. Almost immediately after the campaign ended, Bobcat Bounty experienced its busiest pantry distribution in history, serving over 300 shoppers which is more than 100 more than the previous record. Thanks to you, Bobcat Bounty was ready to meet this surge in demand and keep food on the shelves. Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU) also showed their generosity and dedication with a gift of $25,000, split between Texas State and UTSA’s food pantries. Even better, they’ve committed to supporting a second year of the Huddle Against Hunger competition this coming September.

Fall 2024

Building on this momentum, Bobcat Bounty made major enhancements to expand and improve its operations. A student shopper was hired to work five hours a week, purchasing groceries twice a week to keep the pantry well-stocked. New protocols were also introduced for food purchasing, allowing Bobcat Bounty to commit to spending approximately $2,500 every week.  Most notably, the number of Bobcat Bounty Cupboards grew from four to eleven across the San Marcos campus, bringing vital resources directly to where students live and learn. Every item distributed, whether purchased or donated, has been made possible by your generosity. Most importantly, through your gifts, Bobcat Bounty stands firm in its mission: the pantry is open to everyone, always, and no Bobcat is ever turned away.

From our eleven food cupboard locations to the fully stocked main pantry, your generosity ensures that students can access food with dignity and without barriers. Your support helped shine a spotlight on the ongoing need. Thanks to the awareness raised through Huddle Against Hunger, the Bobcat community continued to step up, most recently during our annual giving day, Step Up for State. In just 1,899 minutes, Bobcat Bounty raised an additional $9,920 to continue its mission of feeding students across campus. Every shopper, every meal, and every success story at Bobcat Bounty is thanks to your commitment to fighting food insecurity at Texas State.
