A Bobcat Legacy, Passed Down and Paid Forward

Frank Friesenhahn, Jr. chose to give back to his alma mater in a way that reflects his own journey.

For Frank Friesenhahn, Jr., class of 1991, Texas State University has always been a special place. As a first-generation college student, the experience of attending a four-year university opened doors, sparked lifelong friendships, and laid the foundation for a successful career. But this year, his connection to the university feels more personal than ever.

Motivated by both pride and gratitude, Frank chose to give back in a way that reflects his own journey. He recently established a scholarship endowment to support future Bobcats, along with additional funds that can be used immediately to assist students in need. His vision is clear, he wants to help students succeed, not just at the start of their academic journey, but through to graduation.

As someone who worked his way through school, he understands how difficult it can be to stay focused on academics when financial stress builds, especially in the later years of college. His gift is intentionally designed to address this challenge by offering support that continues over time, easing the burden during those critical final semesters when costs can rise and motivation may waver.

During his time at Texas State, Frank found belonging and purpose through campus involvement. He was deeply active in the Greek community, where he built a network of friends who became like family. Their encouragement, whether emotional, academic, or financial, helped him navigate the ups and downs of college life.

“We worked together and played together, whether it was tubing the river, hanging out on the Square, or crashing soap box derby cars in front of the student center.”

These memories are more than nostalgia, they’re reminders of how transformative the college experience can be when students are engaged, supported, and connected. That’s why he encourages today’s students to step outside their comfort zones and take full advantage of the opportunities available to them, to get involved, build relationships, and connect with faculty mentors who are invested in their success.

Through his generosity, Frank is helping create that experience for a new generation. His gift will open doors for students who may be facing the same challenges he once did, and ensure that they have the encouragement, support, and financial stability to thrive at Texas State.
