The Bobcat community came together in a powerful way for this year’s Step Up for State, Texas State University’s 1,899-minute giving campaign.

Over the course of just two days—March 26–27—more than 2,100 total gifts raised over $1.9 million, making this the most impactful Step Up for State to date.

“Step Up for State showed the incredible generosity and spirit of our Bobcat community,” said Brooks Hull, Vice President for University Advancement. “Every gift, big or small, made a real difference—creating opportunities for our students and strengthening the programs that make Texas State so special.”

This year, the campaign featured opportunities to support a wide range of student-focused initiatives—from scholarships and student research to food insecurity programs like Bobcat Bounty, and vital resources like mental health support and sustainability efforts through the Meadows Center.

Students played a central role as “Grateful Bobcats,” sharing heartfelt stories of how donor support has transformed their educational journey. Their expressions of gratitude underscored the lasting impact of philanthropic support and the importance of community in creating a culture of opportunity.

Throughout the campaign, several generous alumni and friends of the university made standout contributions that reflect their passion for specific programs and causes:

Chris Boening (’86), a finance graduate, made a gift to support student-athletes and the Bobcat Baseball Player Development Center, continuing his family's proud Bobcat legacy and helping enhance athletic facilities.

Señor Rust (’72, ’73) made a generous contribution to Latin Music Studies, supporting the Mariachi Ensemble and the university’s future Music Building—a commitment to preserving and advancing the cultural arts at TXST.

Richard and Kathy Petitt (’67) contributed to the Richard and Kathy Petitt First Generation Scholarship, helping support the 43% of Texas State students who are the first in their families to attend college.

Katie Harvey (’91), founder of K Harvey Brand Partners, gave to the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, empowering Bobcat entrepreneurs to launch their own ventures and follow in her footsteps.

Jason Bradshaw (’83) made a gift to the Robert G. Nance Graduate Scholarship Endowment in Chemistry, supporting graduate students in the College of Science and Engineering and helping advance STEM education at TXST.

Each of these contributions showcases the many ways donors can leave their mark on Texas State—supporting athletics, academics, the arts, entrepreneurship, and more.

Every gift made during Step Up for State helped strengthen the Bobcat legacy. Whether supporting academic excellence, student life, or emerging campus priorities, the collective generosity of alumni, faculty, staff, and friends is shaping a brighter future for Texas State.
