For Roy Worthy ‘89, becoming a President’s Associate was about more than giving back, it was about fueling the energy and momentum ignited by President Damphousse’s leadership.

“I was very impressed upon meeting President Damphousse,” Roy shared. “The energy he carries as president has really fired up Texas State! He seems to be everywhere. I wanted to help make that energy become an action for the benefit of Texas State University.”

That sense of action is rooted in empathy. Reflecting on his own experience as a student who balanced work and school, Roy understands the powerful impact of feeling supported, stating “even something that seems small can have a huge effect on a person’s life.”

Their message to others considering joining President’s Associates is simple but inspiring: “By joining and giving, you help the president by providing a discretionary tool he can use to meet needs that might otherwise fall to the wayside.”

With generosity and belief in Texas State’s future, this President’s Associate is helping ensure the university continues to thrive, energized, and ready for what’s next.

CARRYING ON THE BOBCAT LEGACY

Roy Worthy's grandfather, Marion Horton Bennett, was on the Southwest Texas Normal School football team in 1911. After graduating, he got his M.D. and returned to his hometown, Big Spring, to be a pioneer of medicine in the Big Spring and Howard County area. He and his business partner, Dr. Hall, founded Hall Bennett Hospital in Big Spring. He practiced there until his death in 1956.

His daughter, and Roy's mother, Louise Ann Bennett Worthy was a pediatrician at the hospital and herself practiced there for 47 years taking care of the kids of the area.
